Transaction Processing: Concepts and Techniques by Jim Gray & Andreas Reuter
Transaction Processing: Concepts and Techniques by Gray & Reuter is the definitive reference on transaction processing. The text book covers problems with OLTP systems and discusses fault tolerance, recovery, monitoring, concurrence, scheduling, and file systems. Includes a section on Guardian 90 in the Transaction Processing section.
A great reference to have sitting on the bookshelf, my only regret is that I did not have an opportunity to have my copy signed by Jim..

NonStop Kernel System Administration by Inamullah K Abdulmatin
This is a brand new book that I have not had an opportunity to read yet. The official description is “This book is a introductory guide to the NonStop Kernel operating system used on HP NonStop Servers. It is a practical guide and will lead the inexperienced user by the hand, to show him how to use the NonStop Kernel in very simple and easy-to-use steps.”. Looking at the table of contents this appears to be accurate, and I look forward to updating this review once I have read the book.

Securing HP NonStop Servers in an Open Systems World: TCP/IP, OSS and SQL by XYPRO
This is the second book in the series by XYPRO, and once again they have put a lot of hard work into compiling a vast amount of information on this topic. I actually have not gotten through it all yet! The “Changes to Safeguard since G06.21″ chapter is a great summary and well needed reference. XYPRO’s decision to recruit experts to contribute to sections such as SQL and OSS is also a great idea, and appears to have paid off.

HP NonStop Server Security: A Practical Handbook by XYPRO
This is the first book in the XYPRO series, and the second book to ever be written about Security on the NonStop platform (but the first ever commercially available). There are a few items that some NonStop Security experts do not agree with (e.g. $CMON) but you do have to congratulate XYPRO on a great effort for compiling all this information.

Audit, Control, and Security of the TANDEM NonStop Systems by Ernst & Young
This is the first actual book about NonStop that I ever saw. It was only available directly from Ernst & Young and was not commercially available. The original standard for NonStop Security, it is unfortunate that E&Y never continued to update this book. Although the book is now out of date (pre S series content) , it is still a good overall intro and has good background info for those focused on NonStop security.
