Here are step by step instructions to determine where in the world a poster is located.
These instructions are specific to using Google Groups, and this specific example use the following newsgroup: http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.tandem/topics
While viewing a message in Google Groups, click on More Options
Then choose Show Original
Copy the NNTP-Posting-Host value (ip address).
This is usually, but not always available. If it is not available then the rest of this example will not work.
Go to a Whois service such as http://www.cqcounter.com/whois/
and Paste the host ip address in and search..
Then enjoy the results!
